Arturo Gatti’s wife Amanda Gatti has been identified as Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues. Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues is in custody following the murder of her husband.

Authorities took Rodrigues into custody after finding inconsistencies in her story…most notably, how in the world did she spend ten hours in the hotel room with Arturo Gatti Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues: Gatti Murderer? without noticing that he was dead?

Gatti’s body was found early yesterday morning in a hotel room in the posh Porto de Galinhas resort in northern Brazil.

According to media reports, Gatti, a former junior welterweight champion, was apparently strangled with the strap of a purse, which was found at the scene with blood stains. He also reportedly had a head injury.

She has denied being involved with this death. Police said Rodrigues could not explain how she spent nearly 10 hours in the room without noticing that Gatti was already dead. The police were investigating witness reports that the couple fought and Gatti was drunk when he returned to his room Friday night.

The relationship between the two has historically bee unstable at best.  The two were often quite jealous of one another, and Gatti often harped on Rodrigues for dressing too provocatively.

Gatti was scheduled to testify next week in New York in a suit filed by former opponent Joey Gamache against the New York State Athletic Commission. The suit claimed negligence by the Commission during the 2000 fight’s weigh-in. The lawsuit asserts Gatti was 19 pounds over the 141 pound limit.

The couple has a one year old son who was unhurt.
